Monthly Tip : February

Many students come to me asking," How do I quit coming over the top"? Most come over the top to create loft on their longer irons. Golf is counterintuitive. The correct way is to hit from the inside quarter of the ball. This will make the divot in front of the ball, striking the ball with a descending blow. To do this try taking a 2X4 and laying it outside the ball 3 or 4 inches on the intended target line making some smaller swings. The fear of the club head hitting the board will make you hit more from the inside quarter of the ball like a field goal kicker in football. Once you repeat this drill a few times move the board and see if the divot is straighter and in front of the ball. This may take some time, so be patient and keep practicing the payoff will be surprising.
