Ice Skating, Gumbo Cook-off and Sidewalk Sales Slated for January 2008 at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort

Destin, Fla. (Dec. 3, 2007) – Set the pace for a lively new year with one-of-a-kind activities this January at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. Locals and snowbirds alike are invited to events in The Village of Baytowne Wharf and The Market Shops at Sandestin including, ice skating, sidewalk sales and the 19th annual Great Southern Gumbo Cook-off.

Sandestin events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. This month’s events include:

Wine Tasting

Sample hand-selected vintages at Sandestin Wine World’s weekly wine tasting each Friday (Jan. 4, 11, 18, and 25) beginning at 5 p.m., and receive tips and expertise provided by knowledgeable staff. Meet the Artist at Donna Burgess Gallery
Stop into The Market Shops at Sandestin between Noon and 3 p.m. each Wednesday (Jan. 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30) to meet Beaches of South Walton 2008 Artist of the Year, Donna Burgess, and have her autograph or personalize your art selection. Donna Burgess Watercolor Workshop
HJoin Donna Burgess at her art gallery at The Market Shops at Sandestin for a three-day seminar on Thursday, Jan. 3 through Saturday, Jan. 5 to learn the techniques of watercolor painting. 19th annual Great Southern Gumbo Cook-off
Gumbo, gumbo and more gumbo is what’s to eat when local restaurants and businesses compete in the 19th annual Great Southern Gumbo Cook-off held at The Market Shops at Sandestin from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008. Gumbo-lovers near and far are invited to enjoy live Cajun and Zydeco music by Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band, door prizes and a chance to vote for the best gumbo around.

EVENTS AT THE VILLAGE OF BAYTOWNE WHARF

Ice Skating Rink
The ice skating rink at The Village of Baytowne Wharf at Sandestin will be open for just a few weeks more until Jan. 27. For just $6 kids and adults can skate the night away. Skates are available for rent for $2. The rink’s hours are Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from Noon to 6 p.m. For more information, call 850/267-8117.

 

Wednesday Night Concert Series
The heart and soul of Sandestin comes alive with the Wednesday Night Concert Series from 6 to 8 p.m. (Jan. 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30) in The Village of Baytowne Wharf. This month’s bands include; Dread Clampitt (Jan. 2); Chubby Carrier and The Bayou Swamp Band (Jan. 9); Hubba Hubba (Jan. 16); Donnie and Friends (Jan. 23); and Reed Waddle (Jan. 30). Gerard’s Lunch and Learn Cooking Class
Cooking lessons are fun for you, a group of friends or a team of co-workers. Gerard’s Kid’s Kook Class
Parents can give themselves a chance to shop while kids learn to cook at Noon each Saturday (Jan. 5, 12, 19, and 26) at Gerard’s Cookery & Cajun Market in The Village of Baytowne Wharf at Sandestin. Kids ages eight to 12 learn to make an entire meal, serve and set the table, and enjoy eating what they made almost all on their own. Reservations required to 850/351-1999.

Magnolia & Ivy Morning Worship
Come to the Tupelo Courtyard in The Village of Baytowne Wharf at Sandestin for Magnolia & Ivy Morning Worship at 9 a.m. each Sunday (January 6, 13, 20, and 27).
