INTRAWEST HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT EMPLOYEES RECOGNIZED AT ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET AT SANDESTIN GOLF AND BEACH RESORT

Released on Thursday, October 04, 2007

Destin, Fla. (Oct. 04, 2007) –   Approximately 300 Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, Cottage Rental Agency, Residence Inn Sandestin, Marriott Courtyard at Grand Boulevard and Portofino Island Resort & Spa employees gathered at the Linkside Conference Center at Sandestin on Monday, Sept. 24 for the 8th annual Service Awards Banquet, now an Intrawest Hospitality Management (IHM) of Northwest Florida celebration. Employees who have reached their five, 10, 15 and 20 years of service mark were recognized.

This year’s special guest speaker was Canadian Adventurer and entrepreneur, Jamie Clarke. In 1997, Clarke became the 9th Canadian to summit Mount Everest, a true accomplishment after being forced to turn back two times before when he was just 500 feet from the top. In addition to his moving words, Clarke included breathtaking images and recordings from Everest into his speech.

In addition to his moving words, Clarke included breathtaking images and recordings from Everest into his speech.

Clarke and his brother, Leigh, co-produced two documentary films based on Clarke's Everest expeditions, including Above All Else, a film chronicling his three Everest climbs, which was broadcast internationally on National Geographic during the spring of 1999. Clarke is also the co-author of The Power of Passion, an absorbing account of his Canadian Everest team's 1991 and 1994 expeditions.

While weaving together his inspiring story of dedication and triumph, Clarke demonstrates that we are all adventurers on our own journeys. Clarke imparted these words of wisdom, “Bring passion and courage to as you approach your climb, the summit of your defining, not just those of rock and snow…and never give up.”

“The success of Sandestin is due to the dedication of our employees,” said Rob Babcock, vice president and general manager at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. “Because of the team’s hard-work and commitment to excellence, Sandestin will achieve its vision to be the Southeast’s premier resort destination. It is a privilege to be a part of this team.”
