Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort Focuses on Family Fun, Learning and One-of-a-Kind Experiences

Family Activities Create Memories that Last a Lifetime

Destin, Fla. – Family vacations are a timeless tradition – an opportunity for families to focus on building new memories with each other. Whether these vacations are taken once or several times a year, each member of the family looks forward to fun experiences and quality time with the people they love.

Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, a 2,400-acre premier destination resort located on Northwest Florida’s Gulf Coast, knows how to cater to families as it offers a world of stimulating, fun-filled and educational activities for the whole family. From the summer season’s popular weekly celebration, Mini Gras, to highly-anticipated yearly events such as the Great Southern Gumbo Cook-off, Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic and Canines on the Catwalk, Sandestin offers continuous activities and special holiday-themed events that the family can enjoy together.

"Sandestin understands that the family that plays together stays together," said Rob Babcock, vice president and general manager. "Spending time learning a new sport or activity as a family helps create memories that last a lifetime. At the same time, children enjoy the challenges and excitement of mastering a new skill and developing talents they did not know they had – talents that can develop into lifelong interests."

Learning

The Sandestin Sailing Program at Sandestin’s 98-slip Baytowne Marina specializes in sailing courses for children and teens. Sailing lessons provide fun instruction on how to operate a vessel during a two-hour course in a safe and organized environment. Children will learn the basics of rigging, knot tying, points of sail, safe operation and technique, all while working together as a team. Courses are offered for children ages 8 to 12. Private lessons and teen sailing socials are also offered.

The Baytowne Marina also offers fishing pole rentals for one-on-one learning experiences between parents and their little anglers. Sandestin features 72 stocked ponds throughout the resort ideal for lazy afternoons spent teaching young ones to fish.

Sandestin’s Junior Golf Program extends a half-price discount to golfers age 17 or younger. This allowance is coupled with year-round discounts for golfers of all ages playing after noon at The Links, Baytowne and Raven courses. The program does more than promote the sport to younger players – it encourages family play. Afternoon discounts are subject to availability and vary by time of day. Lessons for juniors and family clinics are also available at the Hank Johnson School of Golf at Sandestin.

Baytowne Golf Club extends a complimentary round of golf to children under 12 when accompanied by a paying adult after 12 p.m. Complimentary kids rental clubs and special collector’s edition kids yardage guides are also provided at the course with this promotion.

The entire family can engage in an afternoon of fun when playing an adventurous, contoured putting course offering 18 challenging holes. The Dunes, conveniently located near the beach, features holes from 25 to 60 feet in length designed especially for young golfers; however, its level of sophistication makes it a challenging excursion for even the most seasoned putters. The Dunes putting course includes sand traps, water hazards, fairway mounding and elevation changes that will entice golfers of every age. Families can even putt after dark with lights illuminating the way.

Family members seeking a different sport with a swing may be interested in Sandestin’s Junior Tennis Camp, a fun-filled tennis learning experience for ages 5 to 17. The program includes instruction, beverages and prizes for participants. Available seasonally from March through July, and September through November, the camp seeks to teach and improve kids at both the beginner and intermediate level. Instruction for parents is also available.

Complimentary Fun

Sandestin offers fourhours of complimentary bicycle rentals to all guests – perfect for teaching small children how to ride a bike. With bikes and helmets available in all sizes and more than 2,400 beautiful acres to explore, bike-riding offers and adventure for families who like to be on the go.

Families can take advantage of complimentary canoes for cruising around Choctawhatchee Bay and kayaks for adventures on the bay or Gulf of Mexico. Other beach adventures, such as parasailing, ocean kayaking, and hula and limbo contests, are offered on the sugar-white sand beaches during the summer months.

While some might consider all of Sandestin a playground, Adventure Landing, in The Village of Baytowne Wharf, is a must-play area, featuring a world of swings, winding paths, mazes, bridges and slides. The Market Shops at Sandestin is also home to a children’s playground in the center plaza.

Discover the spots less-traveled at Sandestin, including Jolee Island Nature Park and Capt. Joe Lee’s Tree House. Jolee Island is a year-round, five-acre authentic island, featuring a pirate ship adventure playground, picnic sites with grills, old-fashioned porch swings, a running path, nature walks, visiting petting zoo and a space for lawn events.
