Full-time, year-round employees are eligible for vacation after one year of completed service. Vacation time is accrued on an employee’s anniversary date in the following increments:
- One (1) year of service, but less than five (5) - two (2) weeks (80 hours)
- Five (5) years of service, but less than 15 - three (3) weeks (120 hours)
- Fifteen (15) years of service or more - four (4) weeks (160 hours)
Vacation time may be taken in two (2) hour increments. Earned and unused vacation time will not be carried forward from year to year. There is no year-end payment in lieu of earned and unused vacation time.* Employees will not be paid for any earned and unused vacation at termination or after a resignation notification is received.
*Many departments have designated times during the year for vacations to ensure proper operational service levels. It is important that employees discuss their vacation plans with their supervisor well in advance and obtain proper advance approval.
After one (1) year of service full-time, year-round employees will earn five (5) days of paid time off (PTO). PTO time must be taken during the twelve (12) calendar months following the service date it is earned. Earned and unused PTO time will not be carried forward from year to year. There is no year-end payment in lieu of earned and unused PTO. Employees will not be paid for any earned and unused PTO at termination or after a resignation notification is received.
If any of the above-mentioned holidays fall on a Saturday or Sunday and are observed by the state and nation on a Friday or Monday, respectively, that same Friday or Monday will be considered the paid holiday.
Full-time, year-round employees are eligible for insurance benefits on the first of the month following 60 days of employment. Sandestin offers multiple medical, dental, and vision coverage options. Sandestin also offers Basic Long Term Disability (employer paid), Short-Term Disability (employee paid), and Long Term Disability Buy-up (employee paid). Sandestin provides basic Group Term Life Insurance at a rate of one times your annual earnings. Employees have the option to elect additional voluntary term life insurance policies for themselves and for their dependents (spouse and child). Supplemental policies, such as Accident and Critical Illness, are also available (employee paid).
Employees are required to elect their benefits within 30 days of their hire date through our benefits portal. Employee will receive notifications through our HRIS software to complete the Enrollment experience. Elected benefits will not take effect until the first of the month following 60 days of employment.

The following holidays will be granted with pay to all eligible, full-time year around employees when not worked: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
To be eligible to receive holiday pay the employee must have completed 90 days of continual service, have worked his or her last scheduled day immediately before, and the first scheduled day immediately after the holiday in question unless excused for an illness verified by a doctor’s statement.
If any of the abovementioned holidays fall on a Saturday or Sunday and are observed by the state and nation on a Friday or Monday, respectively, that same Friday or Monday will be considered the paid holiday.
