Sandestin Foundation for Kids

MIRAMAR BEACH, FL (04/25/2018). The 29th Annual Sandestin Gumbo Festival, one of the most popular winter food events along Florida’s Emerald Coast, announced Tuesday that the organization donated $4,600 to the Sandestin Foundation for Kids. The donations from Baytowne Wharf were given in return for Sandestin Foundation for Kids providing volunteers to Gumbo Fest and from four of this year’s winners who donated their prize winnings to the Foundation. The Gumbo Festival is a two-day event, held over President’s Day weekend at The Village of Baytowne Wharf at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.

“Gumbo Fest offers the opportunity for guests to sample gumbos, each with its own take on the Cajun Creole delicacy, from many of our local restaurants,” stated Alan Meyers, The Village of Baytowne Wharf executive director. “We are very fortunate to have the support of our sponsors, community partners and locals and visitors alike that make it possible for us to provide funding to local non-profits and we are proud to present the proceeds to the Sandestin Foundation for Kids.”

Throughout the Gumbo Festival, attendees are encouraged to vote for their favorite gumbo and prizes are awarded in multiple categories. Sandestin’s Marina Bar and Grill, Dewey Destin’s Seafood Restaurant and Bubba Gump’s Shrimp Co. all placed in the gumbo competition and donated their winnings back to the Foundation.

“The mission of the Sandestin Foundation for Kids is to make a meaningful and positive difference in children’s lives, and with the support of events such as the Sandestin Gumbo Festival, we continue to impact children’s lives, one at a time throughout the Emerald Coast and abroad,” stated Sara Becnel, Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort executive director and co-trustee of the Sandestin Foundation for Kids. “It’s humbling to see so many volunteers come out to make a difference in these children’s lives and the additional support from businesses who gave not only of their time; but their prize money.”

The 30th Annual Sandestin Gumbo Festival is set for February 15-16, 2019. For more information on the Sandestin Gumbo Festival 2019, visit sandestingumbofestival.com/.
